(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am fairly new to the poultry world, I got my first six pullets this time last year. They are beautiful laying hens now! Very friendly and personable.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I now have 17 chickens! Six laying hens and 11 pullets (I think at least) in the brooder.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Hens: 2 buff Orpingtons, 2 cuckoo Marans, and to Easter hens
Pullets: 2 White rocks, a Jersey Giant, a Blue Star, a Starlight green egger, a Cinnamon Queen, a Faverelle, a Polish, a Naked Neck, a Rhode Island Red, and a Lavendar Orpington that *may* be a roo.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
It is so much fun! I love learning about their personalities and hanging out with them during the day. I thought dogs were my favorite pets until I got chickens. Also, the eggs
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening and playing with the dogs!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live in a multi-gen household in San Diego California. I’m the grandma of the group! I take care of my two-year-old granddaughter and live with her, my two daughters and son-in-law. We have all the chickens, five dogs, and two snakes.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC googling questions I had about my chickens, I’ve known about it for about a year. I decided to join now for mostly support and to share ideas!
