My son and I hatched 4 buff Orpingtons last week: Lorraine, Puff, Scrabble and Amber. They have already more than doubled their size! How important is brooder box size for the next 7 weeks?

Hello :frow and welcome to BYC!

Great names! Good luck with the chicks. They will multiply fast. ;)

Orpingtons are my favorite breed! I'm sure you will enjoy them as they continue to grow. They can move outside permanently around week 8. In the meantime they must be living in the brooder so make sure it can accommodate their growing size.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2, Chicks will often start picking on each other if they are too crowded, so you want to increase the size of the brooder as the chicks grow, by eight weeks you probably want about 2sq/f chick minimum. .

Welcome to BYC and congrats on successfully hatching 4 chicks!

Nice to have you join us and if you have questions, feel free to ask. There are a lot of friendly and knowledgeable members here.

Have fun with the little ones!
