Hello, my name is Evan and I am from East Tennessee. My mother and I have been keeping chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and guineas for about five years now. At one time we had over 200 chickens, around 25 geese, 18 ducks, 6 turkeys and 16 guineas. Between predation by pests, flying away off into the field, and unexpected illness, we lost a lot of chickens. A lot of the guineas took off and the German shepherd got out one day and killedabout half of the geese and ducks. Since then we have done a lot of work towards containing our poultry and keeping predators out. They do come out to free range when it's nice out but they go back to the barn at night. Recently I started investing in my own livestock, I currently have three female ducks, one male duck, and five ducklings. I also have 25 straight run Rhode Island Red chicks. My mother and I just went half-in on 13 Black Copper Maran pullets, 2 BCM cockerels, and 5 Blue Splash Maran pullets. BCM when bred to BSM makes Blue Copper Marans that go for $20 per chick
. I do plan on getting 50-100 more Rhode Island Red pullets when I get my barn and chicken yard built.
