As way of introduction my name is David and I am writing from the Gatineau Hills of Quebec just outside of Ottawa, Canada's national capital.
As I write, I am 10 working days away from retiring from a near quarter of a century career as member of Canada's public service.
I am part of a planning committee launching community projects aimed at raising awareness on local and sustainable food production and two of our initiatives this year include a small chicken coop (4 chickens) nestled between two sets of community garden plots.
We are completely new to both of these ventures and look forward to learning new things along the way. We are fortunate to have a farm sponsor who is prepared to help with some education and support in raising the chickens as well as sourcing some of the products we might need.
My wife of 34 years and I are the proud parents of two young women who are both nurses and grandparents to one young lad ( 2yrs and a half) with another on the way.
We are avid outdoors people who enjoy cycling, hiking and various winter activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
I feel very fortunate to have found this site while searching for information when the initial farmer who was to rent us the whole chicken coop and supplies was no longer available.
My neighbour and I are building the coop using Trictle's coop plans found on the site.
I look forward to participating in this forum and in learning this new hobby.
