Greetings and salutations!

Please call me Maurana or Maura for short. I've been ghosting this site for the past several months as I've slowly but surely gathered information and learned more about becoming a "chicken mama". I'm finally coming out of the ether that is the Internet and becoming a member now because realizing my goal of owning chickens and benefiting from their eggs as well as their presence and personalities is much more real and in sight!

My husband and I along with our 6-month-old daughter just moved up to Indianapolis and we have a rather spacious backyard to benefit from to house and raise chickens as well as bee keep. We are excited as we continue to settle into the house with my in-laws as we dream up where to keep the coop and run, how big, can it be made mobile at that size, etc. etc.

In short, we are complete novices at chicken rearing but are completely open books to knowledge, experience, guidance and expertise of others to help us stumble along our path towards chicken parenthood!

Sincerely,
Maurana

Edit: I've also been reading through a book, "Keeping Chickens: Getting The Best From Your Chickens" by Hobson and Lewis, as more preliminary research

! Pleased you joined us! BYC is a certainly a great place to learn. I always steer newcomers to the Learning Center - it has so much great information about raising a happy and happy flock! In terms of coop and run size...if you haven't run across it yet, the proper size recommendation is 4 sq. ft. per bird in the coop and 10 sq. ft. per bird in the run! Good luck to you and happy research!
