Hello all,

I am new to the site. My name is Spencer im 29 and new to owning/raising chickens - on Saturday I picked up 6 baby chicks (one-two day olds)

I have 2 Chanteclers, 2 Silikies, and 2 Americaunas. They are currently in a large brood box in my office, its 4 ft long- 3 ft wide- and 1ft high with the Heat lamp on the side with a little house type area I built for them. they've only eaten starter and scrambled eggs so far as I don't want to introduce anything until I give them chick grit.

So far everything is going well. the only things ive run into so far is on the little brown americauna (named blue after the raptor in Jpark) she had a bad case of pasty bottom which I cleared up with a cloth and today Blue threw up after eating - I checked her crop and (if I did it right) everything feels fine now so I'm hoping the regurgitation helped to clear it up, but I also saw a suggestion to offer her olive oil to help so I may try that if I see it again.

I'm eager to meet everyone and get lots of feedback on the many questions I'm sure that I will have. I have done tons of research but I know experience is key so hopefully you guys can lay some knowledge on me :).

G'Day from down under Spencer :frow Welcome and Congratulations! :clap

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
