New to this coop

Hi , I'm Billy in Northwest NC foothills - in the only county in the US that has an entire mountain range within it's borders . I have a small floc - 5 hens and 1 aggravating rooster- funny part and people around here laugh at me but I have the coop about 10 feet from my bedroom window - had them a lot further from the house but something got in and killed all but 3 hens - so I moved them to where I can hear them - especially at night .

Salve (Latin for hello)! I agree if I lived in a more rural area than I do now I would have my coop as close to the house as possible. What breed of chickens do you have?

I think having your flock housed close to your bedroom window is brilliant! I have my (too many) coops all very close to my house, too -- although it would be tough to get them next to my second-floor bedroom window .

Because the coops are so close to the house, my two rescue dogs hear anything that sounds like trouble and quickly let me know, especially at night..
