I have two broodies on nests with hatching eggs. I have a baby gate in front of the nest boxes so the other hens do not lay more eggs in those nests boxes. When I free range the other chickens I remove the gate. Now that the eggs are hatched, do I need to move the chicks and MOMS to another area of the coop so they can walk around? Will the other chickens try to hurt the chicks? Thanks

I used to worry about that too when I was new. But I don't bother broody hens and their chicks anymore. They're quite good at being great mamas. I'd only interfere if I saw a problem, like if one of the bigger birds is picking on a baby.

That hasn't happened for me though....

Should it be ok to remove the baby gate completly tomorrow if all the eggs have hatched? Since the two nests are side by side will the two MOM be ok with the chicks? Will the chicks know what MOM and nest is theirs?
