Our youngest daughter recently joined 4H, she's so excited! We have recently acquired four Silkies, all different colors. One has a sort of defect on its foot (this was a first chick from a new pair the breeder had tried out) & this one was a freebie-it's also the smallest, like a runt. Seems ok otherwise so far :) No clue if girls or boys. Playing it by ear lol. Literally. Building the coop soon, they are only 3 weeks right now. Can't wait!

Hello :frow and Welcome to BYC! Silkies are great pets, you'll really enjoy them. You might want to take pictures of the bad foot of the one silkie and post it on the Emergencies board in case there is something that could/should be done about it. So far as boys/girls go, they are really hard to tell apart until older, you can always post pictures on the What Breed Or Gender Is This board or one of the silkie threads to see if some of the silkie experts can help. People are also DNA testing their silkies if they have to know sooner.

thanks everyone! Will have to try for a shot of the foot/feet (seems both may be affected). here are some shots of our babies.
