I have been reading in this site specifically for a while now trying to figure out all the best options. Which chickens for egg laying. I only was 2-3 as we live in the city. Our backyard is fenced in and we sit on a large corner lot not heavy or fast traffic. I've been going back and forth on building my own coop with a bigger run or purchasing one already made that has a considerably smaller run. So questions: to build or buy? Which chicken is best for a city? Free range or large run?

Thanks in advance everyone! :)

heres a list of best egg layers in my opinion
Leghorns - these do tend to be flighty and need more space
Black Australorp - This breed will bear confinement better than leghorns
Rhode island reds - A good breed to start with
Ancona - these are similar to leghorns in their temperament
Barred Rocks - another good starter breed

These are just my favorites for egg laying. another thing to consider is egg color. If u want a mixed basket of egg color then u might want an Easter Egger which lays blue/green eggs. Welsummers and Marans lay dark chocolate colored eggs

I would suggest build your coop. I think this because u will be able to make it to your liking. Also, some coops you can buy might be user friendly, but not always chicken friendly. one thing to consider is having enough space for the number of chickens u are planning on having. It doesn't have to be overly big, but if your chickens are stuck in there due to bad weather, u want them to have enough room.
