New to this. Momma of 2 girls 4 and 2 . 3 dogs (inside mostly except to go play and potty) and inside cat ... So chickens are new to me except for the ones I've encountered at my aunts before she passed .a friends giving us some chickens and we got a coop on clearance at tractor supply for 100$ ...planning on expanding the run as soon as money is available for it. Wish us luck! I want to teach my girls self sustainability. :)........BTW were receiving golden buffs....naming them rose blanch Dorthy and Sophia.... Our Golden Girls

Welcome, chickenswv! I LOVE the names you gave your "Golden Girls." BOs have a reputation for being good with children, so I think you're starting out with a great breed. We have one of those, as well, and though ours is a bit standoffish, she allows my daughter to scoop her up for hugs without complaint and is super gentle. Your girls are blessed to grow up with chickens and to have a momma who cares to teach them self-sustainability...good for you! My family is only about 4 1/2 months into chickens, and we're already hooked. I'm guessing yours will soon be, as well, if you're not already. Best wishes to you!

Welcome to Backyard chickens, glad you joined the flock. The best place to start a chicken education is the Learning Center. It will answer questions you don't even know you have yet.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sorry to hear about your aunt's passing
