I Need some advise. I have what I hope is a a breeding pair of Rio Grands (7 weeks), they are deffinatly a male and female.I have them in my chicken coop/run. I am going to build them a seperate run and some kind of shelter. I plan on raising the young for meat. My question is, do you need to build a coop or is a pole barn type structer good enough for them? My way of thinking is that they are use to living in the wild so if they have some shelter to get out of the weather is this enough? Turkey are ground nesters right? I plan on putting a roost in the structure. One more question, Turkey only lay and hatch in the spring correct? And how many offspring might I expect? Anything I might be forgetting or any other advise would be welcome.

Thanks in advance

I also have a pair of Rio Grands this is my second time raising turkeys. The first one I raise (well helped raise) was a white turkey is all I know and we raise her from a hatchling. I have my Rio's in the same yard and coop as my chickens. They where all raised together but not all hatched at the same time my turkeys are the youngest of the yard at 15 weeks and I have Buffs and Rocks at 21 weeks. My turkeys roost up high in my coop. hope this helps.
