My husband and I starting our portable chicken tractor/run made from eletrical pvc he got wholesale from his store. Works great so far! It will be about 5' long x 2 1/2' wide x 2 1/2' high, my design size for max use of materials. Covered with mesh and a roof (in background, green plastic from SHIP, a used building materials store) will be nice for the girls... Close up of joints.

Pics of run in progress and finished with chicks on a short field trip!!! The door flips up, and will add food, water, crate in back w/straw for nesting area. This is seperate from the main coop/run. That we will finish next. I like the fact that this was relatively low cost- roof $1.00, netting $15.00 ?, tie wraps $4.00, electrical gray PVC $4.00, $15.00 pvc fittings, glue. Total was about $40.00 or less. Not too bad and I like the fact it's only about 10 lbs. and completely weather proof, can sit outside with no degrading...

MAKE NOTE- only use black tie wraps, as they are weather resistant and won't become brittle and break. They cost twice as much but will last forever! Ah the things my hubby teaches me!!!

In my backyard where I can see them. Mostly hawks are what I need to worry about in urban Boise...

Thanks, and I did buy some monster garden stakes to snug it down to the ground. Raccoons, in this area, are more by the river, long ways away....
