Anyone who says chickens are stupid needs to meet Comet.
Comet is our 9 month old BO roo. In this picture, he is standing with some of his girls at the treat dispenser, formerly known as the bird feeder.
A few days ago I was doing dishes at the sink that overlooks this little rose bed and feeder. I watched Comet bring his girls up near thee feeder. He then jumps about 4 inches into the air and knocks the feeder. 5 or 6 sunflower seeds then fall from the ports on the side of the feeder. He stands and wait while the girls eat what has fallen. When they are done, he jumps and bumps the feeder again. He will do this 8-10 times in a row and I find him there once in the morning and once in the afternoon. He never knocks down more than the girls can clean up and he never eats any...
...until night time. At dusk, the calls the girls into the barn and waits for them to roost. He then comes back out by himself and eats from the treat dispenser alone.
Ya gotta love chickens!
This is Comet after the girls have roosted.
