Howdy everyone! My wife and I are brand new to the whole chicken lifestyle, but decided we wanted to take the plunge and give it a try. We live in town, so we are limited to just a small flock of birds, so I went to a local breeder and had him give me a nice assortment to start out with.

Here is what I have:
2 Splash Marans
1 Light Sussex
1 Lavander Australorps
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
1 Ameraucanas

They are currently in the 1-3 week range and living in my homemade brooder in my garage. I am planning on building a coop in my back yard starting later this week and have found some great designs on this site.

I have a couple of friends with chickens that I've been bugging quite regularly with questions and researching tons here on this site and on others. Seems like I have a LOT to learn!

Anyways, just wanted to say HEY! and thank everyone for the great info they have posted and shared! I'm sure I will have lots of questions along the way if I can't find answers by searching!

Welcome to BYC, Rick. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a nice mix of breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (our children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. X2 on NorthFlChick; if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
