I got started with chickens around 2005 on an impulse buy—walked into a feed store and walked out with three birds. That led to building my first little coop in the suburbs. Over the years, I’ve built more coops than I can count and raised plenty of meat birds, layers, and a few accidental "pets" along the way.
These days, I moved to a homestead setting and recently remodeled my coop to make what I think is an ideal design. The remodel was driven by predator issues, but it’s now well-secured, housing four active layers with 15 new recruits getting ready to join the ranks.
While I do enjoy all things chicken, and sharing knowledge my reason for joining was I am branching out a bit. I purchased 30 ringneck pheasants arriving soon and am in the process of building a 30x30 aviary for them.
