Hi, I joined this community because I'm raising waterfowl for meat primarily. I may expand into breeding and eggs. I currently have 3 breeds of geese: French Toulouse, American Buff, and African, all from Metzers. I also have white muscovy ducks from Metzers as well.
I'm using a locally milled non-gmo soy-free feed. My flock free ranges in my orchard and what's left of my garden (deer destroyed a record amount this year, fence WIP).
I'm thinking of expanding into some layer chickens and meat birds for personal consumption and to compost food scraps and garden waste, as well as till some soil for me.
Anyway, long term, I'm hoping to share some content, maybe make some youtube videos, about raising geese and ducks for meat. There's some information out there, but some info is clearly missing. Like, can you give your geese and ducks grass on day 1? Yes, yes you can (I put in a little grit tray); some places say not to do this. Many bird raising sites suggest you keep your ducks and geese indoors until they're like 8 weeks old, which is ridiculous (maybe necessary in a very cold climate, but I'm in NC).
