My boss's kids had a 4-H project that outgrew the space in his yard. Since I have a pond on my property, I volunteered to take the 3 eight week old Pekin ducks off his hands. I spent the past two weekends setting up a pen and moving an unused dog house into it, and they moved in yesterday!

The best part is... if I can manage to keep these birds healthy and predator free until spring, my wife will consent to more ducks and/or chickens next year! (I feel like a kid again, eh?)

I was going to post pictures of the ducks in their new home but apparently new members can't include images. They're in my profile, though! The gate is really tall intentionally. It was made with 8' 2x3's so I can toss netting over it and run it to the back of the pen and still be able to stand up.

Welcome to BYC! And welcome to having duckie doodles! I have 95 chickens and 11 ducks now with more eggs for ducks and turkeys due to arrive in the mail. We love our ducks. They are messy little things but they are so good at eating bugs and slugs and they are so entertaining - much better than any tv show! You will find yourself taking chairs out just to watch the ducks play! The eggs they will lay when old enough are the best you will ever find for using in your baked goods - that might help your wife like them better!

Well I'm not holding out hope for that many eggs, they're two males and a female. One's loud with straight tail feathers the other two whisper and their tail feathers curl up. Funny part is, my boss didn't know their sexes at all, I pointed it out when they arrived.
