Hello, I used to be a member a really long time ago, though for the life of me I cannot remember the login info, or the name, lol..
At any rate, my name is Sarah, my fiance and I have just moved from upstate NY to South Carolina (big change!!!)
We will be farming.. right now just 60 somethign acres but eventually, when they know what they are doing a bit better, it will be around 300 or so. I guess soybeans or something for now.. I dunno, that's him. I'm looking forward to the farm animals.. I have to get a little healthier and I'll be able to manage a horse. I'll be keeping bees too.
We have been here about a week and a half and I am really looking forward to getting my chickens..
We are fixing up this huge house that we bought.. kinda living in the living room at the moment with our 3 dogs and 2 parrots.. all the furniture is stuffed in there.. no room to move. etc. fun.. I don't care, I just want to play with the chickens. I miss having them:) They will be my stress relief when stuff gets too crazy, I used to love to just go sit with the girls and have them sitting on my lap and my shoulders.. hanging out..etc.

We need eggs for sure and I want Ameraucana'a for that, I enjoy the colored eggs.
I want some bantams, maybe silkies again, I've always wanted to have some serama's, though I need to do a bit more research on where we live and what types are ok with this heat.. (It was still snowing in NY when we moved here.. ) I want some peacocks, though I guess the only way to get chicks this time of year is to get some fertile eggs. And probably some guinea's.. I am hoping they eat fire ants. (The dogs are hoping so too.. ouch!)

I have been looking on ebay for fertile peacock eggs and I am just not sure whether it's a good idea or not.. they are so much more expensive than chicken eggs (understandably) I'm just worried I'm going to get some jerk who just lies about them having been good eggs or something. I dunno. I guess I can check on here as well to see if anyone is selling any.
I usually end up standing over the incubator like an idiot with this ridiculous expression on my face.. like something is going to happen right now, instead of 28-32 days from now.. hehe:p

There are alot of wild dogs running around our area here (don't understand some of the 'people' here...) we already adopted one pup when we came and bought the house a few months ago (pitbull/german shephard mix pup wandered over and eventually came home with us) and I imagine we will end up with more strays, as I can't turn away a hungry animal.
So we are worried about losing some chickens to dogs. but we also have a bunch of trees around the building we will have them in.. Any real free roamers at first will be the bantams.. etc.. that can get into the trees if they need too, so we can see whats I'm also hoping the peacocks will be as good of alarm systems here as they were back when I had them years ago.
Anyway, that's enough blabbering on for now, I tend to go on, sorry :) .. I'm going to go spackle our bedroom.. and then stop every 20 minutes to peek out the front door like a goofy little girl,. at the place where the horse is going to be ..lol.

Nice to meet you all :)

hello!!!! welcome back :)

I'd love to have a big farm with lots of animals and gardens and stuff. I don't really care for horses and goats and stuff like that but I love my chickens! I'd love geese and guineas and peacocks and stuff like that. but I just have chickens now :) I'm new to chickens!
