Greetings and Salutations!
I'm new here to this forum. I've been lurking every now and then doing a lot of reading. I retired from the military in 2005, and wanted to raise wild turkey, but there are so many dang restrictions and legal issues about raising turkey within city limits, that I've decided to put that plan on hold. With the way our economy is turning (with no help from our Government), I've decided that it's about time to do something for myself, as food prices are about to go through the roof. The Veggie garden is doing OK, but I wanted to add some protein. So, I decided to read up on Courtnix Quail. After a bit of discussion, I was finally able to get the wifey (aka, fund administrator) onboard. Within the next couple of weeks, I'm planing on building a hutch from scratch (using ideas I read from this forum and other Quail blogs), establish a brooder, purchase an incubator and lastly, purchase some eggs from a reputable vendor (aka, not craigslist or ebay). The reason I am doing it this way is to have the housing ready, that way I don't find myself "procrastinating" and putting together a hutch at the last minute. I've seen loads of threads from newbys asking for help, so I plan to do a search for those posts and see where others who have started out needed help/assistance, so I can be a bit more prepared.
Finally, I'd like to thank everyone in advance for the help that many of you will provide.
