Newbie: Best cover for chicks?

i used a LARGE rubbermaid tote ( this thing is HUGE!) i didn't have a screen though! so i discovered the sides of my garden wagon ( its one of those expanded steel types with removable sides ) worked perfect! I had them held in place with a stepping stone. It was nice not having to worry about something jumping on top of it & falling in breaking a regular screen.

We have our chicks in a rubbermaid container we got from Lowes. I have two chihuahua's and immediately let them see the chicks. While sniffing them the chick pecked their nose pretty hard. That's all it took. The dogs won't get close to the actual chick. However, the larger chihuahua checks on the checks at least once every ten minutes. He puts his paws up on top of the container and watches them like he is counting them. Once he sees they are alright he comes back and sits in our lap. This goes on everytime a chick makes a peep or every ten minutes or so. He is so gentle with the chicks. The other one will look in but won't get close!

I want them to be comfortable with each other since they will often be together outside. Now the cat, which is an outside cat, is a different story. I will have to really watch her.......
