I have to tell you all I'm enjoying these forums so much...TONS of info so thanks!

My question is this: I'm building a coup in the back yard. It will have a run that will be on a uphill slop. We're trying to keep permanent construction to a minimum in case we ever win the lotto and can put in a shop/renovate the back yard...we'd have to level it out.

Anyway...when making the run I don't really want to bury the wire so it'll be easier to move if and when. But I've heard of people bending the wire out from the base of the run as a dig deterent. I'm thinking of doing this (about 12" out from base of run) and using landscaping staples to hold the wire down. In theory if it's tight enough to the ground I should be able to still mow over it without too much problem and then the grass, being the invasive bugger it is, should naturally take over holding down the wire anyway. UGH, sorry if that was a long and complicated post...hope you understand what I mean and can steer me in the right direction on this

I would put the apron out just a bit further-at least 18" to 2'. I would be really nervous about running a lawn mower over the wire. Could you take up the sod and put bark or something else over the wire? I also put landscape ties over the bottom. The chickies seem to like to dig a lot at the edges of the run, and they can't make much headway with the ties over the wire.
