Hi all, I am new to keeping chickens and have been lucky to come across this very lovely and helpful website. I live in the UK and have wanted chickens for many years and lucky enough to have 2 (as a start!) I got them from a small garden centre in Kent, sorry to day they seemed more interested in just selling then rather than answering my questions as well. A friend has been kind enough to lend me a book to get me going and I am enjoying watching them grow. I do have one question, if I post some pics would anyone be able to let know what breed they are? I have had them for a month today and they seem happy, I am giving them chick feed at the moment and was going to add the next level feed in about 4 weeks time as they couldn't tell how old they were when I bought them and they would be at least 8-9 weeks by then. I look forward to reading all your posts and sharing your chicken stories

A question if someone would be so kind as to confirm either way. I have been told that you can sex a chicken by holding it with its head away from you and gently tilting forward, if the tail feathers spray out then it is a female, a sort or defence action to protect would e chicks, and apparently this doesn't happen with males? Would this be true?
