Hi everyone, we are your typical family (2 working parents, 2 kids, lots of activities) and live near Durham, NC. .
I'm gonna follow the suggested template to introduce myself. I am looking forward to participating in lots of discussions!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are new to chickens but have volunteered to care for others' chickens before. We have had our big girls for 19 weeks.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 3 chickens that are 19 weeks old to the day, and two babies that are 6 weeks old that we are trying to integrate. All the chickens are from Little Birdie Hatchery and they are all happy and healthy.
(3) What breeds do you have?
the big girls are: Buff Orpington, Australorp and Silver Laced Wyandotte. The little chicks are an Americauna and a Black Copper Marans.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
through Google when I was first researching backyard chickens. I've been reading the forums for a long time and finally decided to join.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We have a little vegetable garden, we go hiking, play board games, and love to cook and share good food. The whole family loves farmer's markets, museums of all types, and anything related to outer space and the galaxy!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have a 10-year old black cat who thinks he is still a kitten. We live near a city, but in a semi-rural area so the chickens have lots of room to free-range. We are eagerly awaiting our first eggs!! 19 weeks to the day and lots of clucking going on.... hoping for an egg or two soon.
