Hi friends. I’m a new chicken mom from just south of Birmingham, AL. I got my original chicks in April when a former student of mine let me pick out 4 week-old chicks from a recent hatch. They are a Polish/Silkie cross - far more Polish than Silkie. My goal is to eventually have eggs and I was nervous that I might end up with all Roos since they were straight run, so I got two Buff Orpington pullet chicks from the feed store. It’s been two months since then and now I most definitely have two Roos and 4 hens. I am going to have to re-home the boys since I am in the city, so I am going to be adding 2 Ameracauna pullets and 2 Black Copper Maran hens this week. Dang chicken math! When I’m not being a “chicken tender”, I’m mom of 7 kids and 4 dogs, I’m an art teacher, and I enjoy photography and being a horse show mom. I hope to learn a lot from everyone here! Here is a picture of my little flock for your amusement.
What a cute bunch of chickies. You're going to have a lot of fun with them. This is a great place for all the info you might need, and some you hopefully will never need. A good group of folks here.
Hi and welcome!! There are so many fellow chicken lovers to greet you and to help you deal with your chickens’ health, well-being, etc. I love BYC! I’m also from Alabama!
