Hi and welcome to BYC - great to have you join us.

Joining your state thread will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area, which can be helpful (just type the name of your state in the search box).

I hope you enjoy your chicken keeping renaissance.

All the best

Hello, Kids Khicks here, trying to join the local byc group. I'm in Milton. I've been building my coop and hen house for about two months now. I'm actually getting chickens Saturday. I have 6 grandchildren who are going to "help" raise the birds. I decided to start with about 8 hens that are about 2 months old. I think they might have a fighting chance for survival. I'm really green about the whole process. My coop is 16' x 20' and the henhouse is 5' sq. I've enclosed the coop 8' sides and covered the top with chicken wire, (also buried it a foot in the ground). I plan to keep the chickens in the coop, not free range. I also plan to shut them up in the henhouse at night. What perils should I be aware of, ants, mites, heat? I'm really excited to get started, I've only wanted them for forever, now's my time.
