I've been poking around the site for a few days. I wasn't originally intending to join; rather, I was doing some general research. However, I have now struck an obstacle, and decided to join in case I need to look/ask for advice.

I am entirely new to the idea of raising chickens; I considered it for quite some time, and finally decided to go for it. So far, it's been great, but we're only 3 days into the experience. I'd detail the aforementioned obstacle, but I'm going to assume that would be better to post in the proper forum [ordinances, etc.].

It looks like there's entirely too much going on in this forum for me to truly read much of it, so if anyone has any advice on what to read, feel free to make suggestions. Off to search and possibly make a post in the ordinances section.

I suppose I should have read the new member advice before posting my intro, huh?

So, a bit more about me: As stated, I'm new to raising chickens; before Friday, I'd never even touched a live chicken. But I'm really making an effort to simplify things and thought chickens would be a good way to start.

We have 6 chicks right now; three pullets [not sure what breeds yet], and 3 Cornish rocks. They're approximately 6 days old, and happily snoozing away in their brooder box in the corner of our living room.

I stumbled on BYC through a recommendation made when a Facebook friend found I wanted to raise chickens. So far, I'd say it's definitely a great place to find and share info.

A warm welcome from an imp in Washington

Try going to the BYC store and buying "Chickens for Dummies" written by BYC's owner.
or another popular book is "Storey's guide to raising chickens"
or look at your local feedstore. They should have books available, I started off with a tiny book called "Your Chickens, a kids guide to raising & showing" They said it was really simple.

Imp- Still wondering how they knew me so well?
