Hi 👋
I’m Leesa and I live in a tiny wee country town that’s only about 10 minutes away from the town I was born in in the South Island. I brought a house here with 3 acres 6 years ago after selling my parents house that only had an acre so really I brought it for the animals not me lol luckily it’s already subdivided as I’m selling two sections and keeping one for me and my remaining animals cause it’s too much for the few I have left and my health went down hill fast after I moved. A stoat got the last of my old chooks who were rescues from a farm and hadn’t layed for a couple of years but my boarder is getting into chooks and I have a a female emu I got when she was 6 months old and is now about 16. We don’t have many here but I’m completely animal mad and have had all sorts of weird and wonderful animals. My health isn’t good now so I’m not rescuing anymore and my animals have all slowly passed away but I did have so many I used to open at the weekend for kids to come and see animals that a lot weren’t likely to see again. I had a gorgeous wee wood duck and beautiful coloured pheasant along with barred rocks that I hatched and frizzle bantams and all sorts of other breeds that just turned up. I don’t eat meat and apparently wouldn’t even when I was little. Dad was a big hunter and gave up taking me after I cried till he caught a rabbit who’s mum he shot and it took him two days taking all the panels and bits off the car to get my new pet out who had to stay in a box at night in the lounge for a couple of nights while dad got a cage made and it got out and ate all mums pot plants lol we lived above a pub my parents owned but had a flat large bit of roof so I had Guinea pigs and a cat and we had a corgi dad had taken off someone that was going to shoot it for biting their kids but he guessed the kids were teasing it and took me to pick it up when I was about 6 and told me not to touch him but just talk to him and sat him between us in the ute and he was on my knee by the time we got home so even though dad put me off eating meat he also started my love of animals and especially rescuing any that needed it. I joined tonight after reading some recommendations on food for my emu just to see if I could give her more variety and it was a great help thanks but I’m going to send an attachment to my boarder cause I’m sure it will be handy for him and especially coop designs. Sorry only photo I could find on my phone is of her butt lol will add some when sort out my cloud
