Hi all, I just joined this site. I recently bought a farm (my lifelong dream) and I'm starting a small chicken flock. I have a couple of small, temporary chicken coups that I built, but I will need to build a new one before the winter comes.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Mostly. When I was younger I worked on a farm with chickens, but this is my first time owning and managing them.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 9 Plymouth Rock chicks (I got them as day old and they're now about 5 weeks). I also have 4 Rhode Island Reds that recently started laying.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eating delicious eggs every day, having my daughter (2 years old) see where her food comes from, playing with and watching chickens.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Long distance running, reading, spending time with family
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a wife and toddler and a 12 year old German Shorthair Pointer. He's a great bird dog who has learned that the chickens are not food.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google searches. I keep having questions as I grow my chickens and finding great answers here. Folks here are really helpful and friendly.
