1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am newish to chickens. I had chickens when I was young, around the age of 12. What my parents didn't tell me was that they were meat birds and not my pets. Fast forward 27 years and I have chickens again!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I started with 12, I lost one this fall unexpectedly for unknown reasons, so I am down to 11. 9 hens and 2 roosters
(3) What breeds do you have?
Buff Orpington (2 roos, 1 Hen), Black Mystic Oynx (7 hens), English Speckled Sussex (1 hen)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love the eggs, and I love taking care of them, it is therapeutic for me somehow.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Knitting, spinning, running around after my teenagers sporting events, camping
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have been married for 19 years, I have two teenagers, I am an archaeologist, I have three dogs, two cats, and a honey bee hive.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found this site today and am excited to have a community to reach out too.
