Hi everyone!
I'm Cindi - very excited new chicken owner in NE Seattle. I've been wanting to start a little flock for a few years and finally got the family on board to take the plunge. We have 4 chicks, a Rhode Island Red, Silver-Laced Wyandotte, Speckled Sussex and a Barnvelder. They are all incredibly sweet, but our RI Red is the lover of the group. I posted some pics in my profile if you want to take a peek.
In preparation, I took a Chicken 101 class and went on the Seattle Tilth Chicken Coop Tour for the past two years. I've read some good chicken books too, so I feel as ready as I can be. So far they are all doing well. We had them brooding inside, but have already moved them out to their coop with the light b/c our house is small and was getting too dusty. They are adjusting well, but we miss them inside. Looking forward to watching them grow and finally have access to their run and the great urban farm that is our backyard.
My husband designed our coop from recycled materials. He converted our daughter's old wooden playhouse and re-sided it with pallet wood. It is awesome! I can't wait until it is totally finished to share some pics.
I found BYC just by searching for backyard chickens and it looked like a fun place to hang out and visit. I hope to learn a lot and get to know some other chicken people.
