Newbie from Snowy Mtns, Australia.

Hi All,
I've been a frequent reader of this very informative website for years, only last week I got back into chicken keeping Hatching out 19 chicks, Australorps (blue and black) Speckled sussex and barred Plymouth rocks. Enjoying very much watching their antics and how fast they grow! Hello to all!

G'day, and welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I have all three of those breeds over the years and they are great breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle, and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. My children made lap pets of both our Australorps and our Speckled Sussex. Much too young to try and sex any - a few weeks old it is sometimes possible

It's too early for sexing them with any degree of accuracy, but if you will post pics of them on our What Breed or Gender is This? section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this in about 3 weeks, we can probably sex them for you at that time. )

OK, thanks very much, I will do that. In the mean time I'm waiting for someone to sex my Plymouth rocks on another thread.I think they are quite easy!
