Whenever I google poultry information, BYC is always at the top of the search list. Your info is always sound and practical and so, even though I'm not much of blog person, I am happy and grateful to be a part of your group. My husband and I bought a breeding pair of Embden and Toulouse geese and Buff, Astrolorp, Rhode Island Red chickens last spring. We are feeling our way through the chick-to-adult stages. The geese are approaching 6 months of age and with any luck will begin breeding pretty soon. Our chickens are almost 5 month old. Hopefully, as the weather begins to cool down, they will begin to produce eggs. Any advise from you poultry veterans is greatly appreciated.

Glad you joined us!

Howdy outwest, Best of luck to you and your new flock! It's such a rewarding hobby. My two red sex links layed the earliest at 14 weeks of age. I could not ask for any better lovely light brown eggs! They have layed every day like clockwork since! I'm also now getting a little cute white egg every few days from my Golden Campine pullet. I do not know what I will ever do with those itty bitty eggs, LOL . I do wish I had a Golden Campine Roo for her then I could have babies running around.!

! Great to have you here. I feel your pain for the heat in your area. It has been the hottest and driest summer I can remember in my 40+ years in Kansas. But we had a blessed 4 inches of rain this weekend! Best of luck with your chickens and geese!!
