I need help! I have a polish girl that's around 12 weeks olds. When I got her I noticed that a rooster (that is now gone and has been gone for a week) was picking on her and pulling out her head feathers. This morning I went to let them out and noticed that more of her feathers are gone and there was some blood on her head. I cleaned her up and put neo cream on it and let he out in the run with the others. I just went back to check on her this afternoon and she had more blood and her white head was muddy or blood. I brought her in and washed her off and put some more neo on it, but what should I do now? I never see her getting picking on and don't really have a bully that I know of. Any ideas what i should do now? Pict below...

seperate her from the others. They peck at the red, so if she has a bloody head the other hens will pck at the red, causing more trama. Take the injured hen away for a week or two and let her heal up as she will never qut getting pecked if blood is visable. There is a product called blu-kote that you can apply to the wound, it covers the red color and they may leave her alone, I've had mixed results with it

Just went out to separate her out and she's scratching it and that's where the dirt color on the other feathers is coming from. There isn't any way to keep her from scratching it is it? Will separating her out make her crazy being alone? Will it heal in 1-2 weeks? Thanks for your help. I feel so bad for her.

Try the blue kote or also called blue lotion like wasillaAK said. I've used it on 2 birds and let it dry then put them right back in with the others and had no more pecking problems. It is also an antiseptic so it will help in the healing process. I also suggest the kind with the dabber opposed to the aerosol can type. Best of luck!!!

I don't live anywhere near a tractor supply, where can I find it? Thanks for help!

I'd start with local feed stores if no luck there....try Veterinary offices. Or if worst comes to worst internet would prob be the easiest way. It is not made for chickens but is fine to use on them unless you plan to use them as meat birds. It is for sores or open wounds on Horses or Dogs, so if you know anyone with horses or a doggy doc they may be able to steer you in the right direction as well. Happy hunting!

The chickens aren't bullies they just peck at anything different and the red is something that catches their eyes.

We have some old style stuff left from parents around called black diamond not sure if its still available but put something on that is dark like a salve and ugh I'm at a loss of words again ugh this old age thing....but I'm thinking its a cote thing lol sorry for not being alot of help but I tried.

I called and they have blue lotion or balloon coat(?) I couldn't find anything online about balloon coat... Anyone heard of it? She said it was a spray....
