Newbie Here With New Chicks!!

Well, I have been lurking around here for awhile, especially since my DH and I decided to get our chicks. They arrived today, all 15, safe and sound from Ideal. We received 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Ameraucanas, 3 speckled sussex, 3 cuckoo marans, and 3 welsummers, all pullets. They are all resting and sleeping now, and my little shnauzer is keeping her eye on them! Oh, and we are from the Mississippi gulf coast, on five acres, and don't know of too many people around here that have chickens anymore. Maybe we'll be the start of something....

We have had chickens all our life and most dogs are great around chickens. if you tech them that they are part of there family and need to protect them.

Thanks for the welcome! Our dog Stella seems to think it serious business to stand guard over the chicks, although she will not go in the room with them alone! One of the cats came in and wanted nothing to do with them--tore right out of the room! Of course, we plan on keeping them separated until they are big enough to range around on their own. We are just happy that the chicks are doing so well, neither one of us slept well last night worrying about their delivery. We have had such warm weather and today of all days it dropped down into the 30's....but they are nice and cozy now.
