Hi everyone, I have just talked my husband into letting me have chickens, on the condition that a few stupid medical tests come back ok. lol So I have about 2 weeks and then I am getting the poultry plan in motion.

Does anyone know how old the pullets they sell at TSC are? I would rather cut out some of the brooding box time if possible. Indiana summers sometimes don't last as long as we would like.

Thanks

! Pleased you joined us! Hope the tests came back positive and you are able to get a flock of your own! TSC gets their chicks from hatcheries - the hatcheries mail them out as day-old chicks. How old they are when they arrive at TSC is anywhere from 2 to 4 days, I would assume. But how long they hang around in the bins waiting to be sold is anyone's guess. If you are looking for younger chicks you might inquire as to when a new batch is coming in and be there that morning to get yours. Sometimes, later in the Spring when most folks are done chicken shopping, the chicks in farm and ranch stores get super cheap as they try to get rid of their inventory. If it's meat chicks you are after that can be a win-win. You are paying rock bottom prices AND the store has paid to feed them for the two weeks or so they had them!! The only down side is the loss of the "cute factor" with the older ones. Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone!

I want the chickens for eggs, would love to get some easter eggers. I am right now going back and forth on getting pullets to speed it along or chicks so I can get bantams too....decisions decisions.
