Newbie! How much room for a chicken run?

Hi- I am new here and new to the world of chickens!

I am planning how to build our coop, and couldn't find how much room you should have per chicken for a chicken run. Can anyone give me some approx. numbers? Thank you so much! This will save me time from doing more searches on the internet and only coming up with things about the movie "Chicken Run"!

The answer to your question will depend greatly on what kind of chickens you plan on housing

What breeds did you have in mind?

Edited to add, I use the 4 to 6 ft per bird rule of thumb. Everyone has their own idea on this so you may get different answers

My chicken have free run over 2.5 acres right now, but we are fencing them in soon. The run will be about 40x80. We have 22 chickens and 28 more on the way. I think most people say 10 sq feet per bird though for a run.

Thanks for the Welcome! We are looking at layers. Like maybe the Ameraucana, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Light Brown Leghorn... We are still trying to decide!

Most folks here would say 10 sq feet per standard bird in the run and 4 sq feet in the coop!!
