Savannah
Hello all,
I'm a newbie chicken lover in Savannah, Georgia. Originally from a small town in Illinois, I moved to Savannah a few years ago after living in Charleston, SC for a bit. I love the South but am a true Midwesterner!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Yes! I just got my first 5 chicks last week.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I currently have 3 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Amber links, though we only plan on keeping three and sharing the other two with a friend.

(3) What breeds do you have?

RI reds and Amber links.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

From a friend. She and her husband had a small backyard flock and I was pumping her for info before we got our chicks. She directed me here.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love to sew, knit, crochet, garden and bake. Though I don't have much time for those things now because I'm going back to school. I'm currently in nursing school with the goal of becoming a lactation consultant.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My husband is an environmental chemist and we have a two year old son. I'm working as a research technician in a molecular biology lab for the time being and will start school full-time next spring. We have a 14 year old Golden Retriever and an 8 year old cat.

I'm so excited to be a chicken mama and really appreciate all the information and support on this forum. What a wonderful website!!

Thanks, TaLani!

CHICKS4ME, we live in the "Boonies" too. It's a great mix of a neighborhood with the country feel to it. My neighbor used to have chickens which is what really sparked my interest. His coop didn't provide much protection so the raccoons got to his flock. Now they just have goats.
