I've been diligently following the forums, trying to learn as much as possible. Decided it was about time to stop being a lurker. I've been successfully raising ten 7 week old pullets until today's tragedy. I was feeding in the outside brooder when one of the leghorns flew out. She didn't make it far before my dog grabbed her. He did fatal damage in the first bite and she was dead shortly after I retrieved her. I've learned a hard lesson & can't wait to build the coop and run next week.

Oh so sorry about your loss!!! Hope you'll be able to get that coop done soon! Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for all the welcomes. I will be making the coop secure from my own pets.

Sorry about your little feathered friend.

Accidents do happen, I'm sorry you had to witness it though. I had a similar thing happen when one of my free range Phoenix flew down from a tree right into my dogs chain link run. He didnt last long at all.

We now have a cover over the kennel run.

Post some pics of your babies! I'd love to see them.
