Newbie in Newport News as Well!

My husband and I have a house is on 3/4 of an ace. I read the city ordinance but am a bit confused as to whether or not the law requires the chicken house to be within 175 ft. of our home, or at least 175 ft. away from our home? Are there any other Newport News locals out there able to shed some light on my inquiry?

It's been far too long since I have had any earth around my home to cultivate. I've already begun making plans for our compost pile (freezing veggie scraps for future composting), my vermiculture bin, a mini greenhouse, and of course....two grand egg laying hens when we're ready!
