We are expecting 9 eggs (out of an original 17....we had high turnover because the eggs had been sitting around for too long) to hatch on Wednesday into Thursday. We have actually hatched chickens once before, as part of a homeschool project when we lived in the suburbs. But we quickly returned those chicks to the farm where we got the eggs from.
Fast forward a few years and we've since relocated to upstate NY. We live in a town well known for its high concentration of Mennonites, most of whom are farmers. Our Mennonite neighbors were kind enough to give us these eggs for hatching and we are planning on keeping 4-5 hens for now. The rest will go back to the farm.
We know absolutely nothing about chicken keeping and are looking forward to getting to know everybody here. I'm sure we'll be posting soon enough with lots of questions!
