Hello from Titletown! Started a mini flock in October, of 4 hens and 1 roo. Just starting to get eggs, and hoping to get going on more!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?

Thanks for the welcome! I got my chickens from a friend, and I think most of them are EE mixes? 3 out of five have puffy cheeks, one is small and skinny compared to the others, and the last has a head/face that reminds me of a vulture? I only have 1 laying, but they are all in a temporary coop/run, an old converted dog house from Fleet Farm, so that may be part of the problem? IDK? I have a bin in there for a nesting box, but whoevers been laying, hasn't gotten into the box yet. I did put fresh shavings in the bin and added some plastic easter eggs I found, so we will see what happens the next few days?

You're welcome. Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) favorite chickens. She loves their colored eggs. Good luck with your flock.

so glad you decided to join us.

My first of 6 to start laying was also a floor layer. All others laid in the nest from day one. The floor laying continued for about 6 months and then she finally decided to move to the nests. I tried all the usual suggestions to get her to use the nest to no avail. I think she will eventually use the nest.

Congrats on the eggs and expect the rest will start laying soon as well.
