Hi!

I am a new chicken owner and I love my little flock. They are Americaunas hatched around April 13th. They are still on chick starter feed, but they have free range during the day and eat a lot of things. Most people think they look full grown.

My question is when can I start giving them kitchen scraps to eat. Any other guidance is greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome. If I am correct, thry are about 11 weeks. So you can throw them scraps now! They will get the grit they need from the dirt in the yard. If you want, you could provide them with a little sand box....I use play sand. Mine use thiers for dust bathing, and I am sure get some grit from it. Enjoy your yummy eggs....coming soon!

Deb is right, scraps are fine, but keep them on the starter/grower until they are laying age (around 20 weeks). They don't need the extra calcium until then.
