KYAS here, new to hen hobby. Always was fascinated but I live in busy suburbia and worried about the responsibilities of keeping chix. Finally jumped off the cliff and am so attached to my girlies! Did I really have a life before them? LOL!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my chix the following Sunday after Easter. Asked my husband to take me to TSC to check them out. I didn't have a plan to buy, but they were so adorable!!!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
TSC only would sell them in 4s, so we have 4
(3) What breeds do you have?
Not sure, but I was told that they are cold-hardy for NJ winters. 2 are black with some white, 1 a beautiful brown, 1 white w/ black wearing her very own Uggs! (She has white feathers on her legs and feet.)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
The sales lady said BYC.com was the go-to resource for all things chicken. I would say her advice is spot-on.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening. I don't have a green thumb. Never have, but my husband and the kids put it in when my grandfather-in-law lived with us because he wanted one. It reminded Papa Luis of his childhood. Sadly he passed the following year. I tend the garden in his absence.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We have 5 kids - 4 in college, 1 in middle school and 3 grandmas! My Mom, my husband's grandma (now with us 18 years) and his Mom. Yep, our 1700 sqft home is packed, but brimming with good times and there is always something cooking between those ladies. It's been an adventure and a blessing to have 4 generations under 1 roof! And now, we have CHICKENS!!!! Grandma loves them! They make me happy!

Thanks to all the contributors to BYC! I have learned a lot!
