Newbie to site and chickens

Hello from Oak Harbor Washington!

I am currently researching and doing a lot of reading on raising chickens. What I am interested in are laying hens. I would like to find someone local or close enough to get some chicks when the time is right. I am hoping to have everything up and ready for them in February or March. My husband and I are currently buying a house with some land and will not be closing on it until sometime in December. I would appreciate everyones input on how to raise and which breeds do well for this climate.

You'll get lots of good advice here at BYC as you plan your new flock. I'm sure there are many heavy breeds that are good egglayers that would do well in your climate. Check out the where are you threads and the state threads to find other Washingtonians who can give you some more specific breed advice for your area!
