I have a rooster- Mr Roostet who is a Silki Jersey Giant mix. Hes a great rooster but his feet are partially feathered and I just discovered he may have mites? Only thing is, his feet seem inflamed- not like other posts Ive seen with scales. I soak in epsom salt warm water then dil into white vinager (tonite for first time) then coconut oil liberally rubbed in amd wrap. Some hens will peck at his pin feathers on his feet and they bleed so that was what I thought I was treati g until I looked closer.

Welcome To BYC:frow

Looks like he has Scaly Leg Mites.
You can apply Vaseline, Castor oil or NuStock to the legs and feet, make sure you work it under the scales of the legs and feet.
You initial soaking helped remove debris from the legs. I would just continue with oils a couple of times a week and only soak the legs if they need to cleaned.

Good luck!

:frow Hi, welcome to BYC the best site for getting help and info about chickens and any kind of poultry! It would be a very good idea to treat all of your chickens, since there is a good chance they all have mites, if one does. It may be that the hens have been pecking at your rooster's mites rather than at his pin feathers. I'm not sure if you need to treat the roosts ir coop as well, so I'm going to tag a couple of our Educators who will surely know. Good luck!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
A product I've found as an effective preventive with my feather legged rooster is Lice Freee! spray. You can also dry spraying his legs and feet thoroughly with that, letting it dry completely then reapplying the Vaseline or oil. His legs are going to be a hot mess for a while with all that oil attracting dirt to stick in the feathers.
