I haven't gotten them yet but will be ordering them from My Pet Chicken because I can get them all at once from the same place. I was trying to make it easier for my DH who is just interested in having eggs for the most part, having pretty chickens was my idea.
When I got my list narrowed down to about 10 different breeds I sat him down and asked him to help me choose what our flock will look like. I was having trouble making the final decision. I wanted to have them as nice looking as we could while still having great layers and very docile birds.
When I first started researching them I asked him what was important to him and all he wanted was about 4 eggs a week from each hen. There's a lot of breeds that fall into that category so you can see my dilemma. I knew I wanted a silkie (they're just so darned cute!) so I checked to see if he minded having a "pretty one" just for me. He said that was fine so I started looking into to standards for the rest of the flock.
I checked MPC shipping requirements since they advertise as few as 3 chicks to an order depending on where you live. Mine happens to be 5 if they are standards and 7 if there are any bantams in the order. So, I ended up choosing another bantam to go with the silkie! I might change my mind and order two silkies instead (we had trouble deciding between white and splash) but I really like the brahmas.
