Hi, my husband and I would like to buy just 2-3 female quail to keep on our patio in south-central Texas for eggs. I've been researching breeds and I'm thinking about jumbo coturnix? I love the little button quail ones but am wondering if they might be too flighty, we'd like a mellow, easy breed to start with. We also like dark meat so if one day we decide to butcher one (I don't know if I could actually go through with it, but you never know) we'd like to have that option.

I'm wondering if anyone has a good resource for where to buy quail chicks and breed recommendations? Thanks all.

Where in Texas are you? (the name of a nearby city will help)

Occasionally I have a few available for new homes. I don't have any to spare at the moment though. So if you can't find anyone check back with me in a month or so and I'll see how many young breeders I have available.

Thanks, we're in the Austin area. Looking to start within the next 2 weeks to a month so that could work out well.
