newbie with 50 lb bag 15% protien layer pellets.

Thank you!! That was my concern as well (pulling it down) bc they get the pellets, oat and corn scratch along with scraps of fruit and veggies and 15% is cutting it close to begin with. They are 2 yrs old and I recently adopted them. I think they were only getting oats and a scratch mix plus scraps before I got them. I have put them on the layer pellets and calcium and they are putting out more eggs

I know we are improving things for them, but I don't have the experience of getting the ratios right yet.

Hey nkeaton,

We all have to learn. That's why we came here. Sounds like you are doing fine. Just bump it up a little. I recently bought a bag of gamebird for $18 and really added to the protein. I use 1 quart scoop of gamebird and 2 of layer and 1 scoop of scratch. Maybe throw in a little BOSS. I ferment my feed so it's healthier for them. It's all a learning curve and I don't think we ever stop learning about ratios, types,, etc.

Except his formula is for 45# not 50#.
I understand that, that's why I said, "20% sound about right, if you want a 20% protein feed then your set.
I figured 60 lbs Starter and 40 lbs Layer and got a 20.40% protein."

And I used the measurements I did bc it's what I have left from my initial 50 lb bag but I think I have figured out the calculations so we r good. Thx all!!

.6% is insignificant but I feel it's important for the OP to have confirmation that how he derived his calculation of 20% was correct. By changing the portions than highlighting the result in red makes it look like his calcuation was incorrect.

Here's a great free ap to help figure protein percentage (or any percentage for that matter). Just insert the protein percentage of both ingredients and you'll get the ratio you need.

The Pearson's square.

After working with it a while, I can now figure it out in my head.
