This is my first communication in this site though I have read many of the posts. I have 5 chickens which are now laying and are 6 mo. young the 22nd of Aug. 2017. All has gone well, in spite of constant harassment from raccoons. I didn't think I had a question till going out to get them new feed and water and to clean the coop night time pans. This morning the pans were full of blood in every poop. The girls, what I call them :-) were and are acting normal, eating well and I just saw one drop her egg this morning.

Anybody have any ideas about the very sudden appearance of blood?

OH, and yes, I was an Illinois farmer many years ago and raised chickens by the thousands.

mine had blood in there poop one time when I changed there coops around it happened for like 2 days and then stopped I was told it was down to stress x

Thanks Beth. That could be it. I have super cleaned the trays and will keep an eye on things. Right now they are laying so many I have to share with others, which of course makes "others" happy. Still getting starter eggs but oh so good!!
